Uploading your resume to the web is easy with JobTabs, but first we need to do the preliminaries. You need to open an account with a web site provider. You may already have an account as most ISPs provide some measure of web space to their customers. There are lots of free services on the internet. Do an internet search for "free web hosting" and you should have plenty to choose from. If you are only looking for a site to publish your resume, you can disregard any concern for what kind of scripting is provided or anything that might interest a web master. You can get by with as little as 5 MB and have plenty of room for plenty of resumes, so you do not need a lot of space for just resumes.
Next you need to configure JobTabs to upload your resume. JobTabs will do all of the painstaking work of copying your resume to the web site, you just need to tell JobTabs where the web site is and we will take it from there. Rather than repeat ourselves, we invite you to simply follow the instructions via the following link Configuring FTP for Uploading Your Resume. These instructions reside in the Configuring JobTabs help topic for future reference.
If you have any problems or need clarification we invite you to write our help file editing staff at help@jobtabs.com or use the Submit feedback link in the top right hand corner of this help page. |
Assuming, you have configured JobTabs with the web site you have decided to use, let's focusing on selecting a resume and putting it on the web. To upload a resume to the internet, go to the Resumes tab, select a resume in the tree and then select the menu item, Upload to web... on the Resumes menu. The upload dialog is shown below,
The title of the resume that will be uploaded. This is the resume that was selected on the resume tree when you clicked Upload resume on the menu.
The name of the web site you will be uploading your resume to.
The destination folder on the web site where you will be placing your resume. Please read the next section for details on selecting the destination.
As always, JobTabs defaults to your standard resume name. The name may be changed to anything you want. What is more you can change the resume type as well simply by changing the extension. If you would rather people view your resume as a Word document, just change the extension to doc. Whether you created your resume in MS Word or the JobTabs word processor the options are the same, except the JobTabs word processor will allow you to save a pdf online whereas MS Word will not.
Clicking Send initiates the upload. The Cancel is only enabled while the send is in progress and is used to cancel the upload. It becomes disabled after the upload is complete. |
As we covered in Configuring FTP for Uploading Your Resume, the default upload folder is configured when you added the account in the JobTabs Options tab. When uploading your resume, you may decide to place your resume in a folder different from the default folder. To select a new folder, select the upload button to the right of the amber colored text box. The coloring of the text box is used to designate the text box as uneditable. The only way to populate it is by selecting a folder from the folder selection dialog. The listing of the destination directories is listed to the left.
With FTP, each folder is navigated one at a time. To select a subfolder, double-click a displayed folder. The subfolders in that folder will be shown. To move up a folder, select the folder with the upward pointing arrow. The green globe designates the top of the web site, the root folder, and no navigation can be done above that point.
Move to the root level directory. Move up to the parent folder.
Once a folder has been selected, click the Select button and the destination folder for your resume will be displayed in the amber text box.
To upload your resume click the Send button. As your resume is being copied to the web, the status bar will continually update to show its progress. Any graphics in your resume will be transferred as well with each graphic displaying its name in the status bar.
You may cancel the upload at any time by clicking the Cancel button.
